| While he was away at school, Hamlet incurred some gambling debts. To pay
them, he entered into a contract to sell Rosencrantz and Guildenstern one
of the country estates he expected to inherit from his father. The price
was 800,000 kroner. R&G gave Hamlet 100,000 kroner as a down payment so
he could pay his debts and get back to Denmark. (Hamlet's creditors had
some political influence, and he'd been forced to surrender his passport
until his debts were paid.) When Hamlet returned to Denmark, he discovered
that his uncle had taken over the estate and he couldn't convey it to R&G.
R&G sue, and in the course of the suit, it is determined that the fair market
value of the estate is 950,000 kroner. How much are R&G entitled to recover
as damages? |
